Description

Volunteers need to be understanding, friendly, helpful, compassionate and professional in their approach towards the wide variety of people who visit our hospitals. 

This opportunity covers County Hospital & the Grange University Hospital

  • To spend quality time with patients in the ward or agreed areas supporting them in meaningful activity. This may include examples such as: walking, reading, chatting, singing, games and other activities  

  • Providing suitable meaningful activity resources 

  • To reassure anxious patients or relatives and help answer general (non-clinical) queries 

  • Assist patients in ensuring that suggestion / comments reach the appropriate staff / manager 

  • Assist with keeping the volunteering area tidy and free from obstruction 

  • To provide regular visits to patients on identified wards, thereby reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness 

  • Assist where the need arises by pushing patients in a wheelchair (following appropriate training) or to contact the appropriate staff member 

  • Supporting patient with ‘This is me’ booklet 

  • To organise/support staff groups organising and delivering activity/play sessions and encourage patients and peers to participate 

  • Mealtime support for identified patients (prompting/opening packets only) 

  • To gather and share patient, relative, carer and staff stories 

  • To adhere to Infection Control current policies and guidelines
