Volunteers need to be understanding, friendly, helpful, compassionate and professional in their approach towards the wide variety of people who visit our hospitals.
This opportunity covers County Hospital & the Grange University Hospital
· To provide regular visits to patients on identified wards, thereby reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness
· Provide meaningful activity with patients such as talking, reading, singing and walking using available resources
· To organise/support staff in organising and delivering group activity sessions and encourage patients and peers to participate
· Providing digital support such as supporting patients in using technology to contact the people that matter to them
· Supporting patient with ‘This is me’ booklet
· Gardening – includes supporting hospital grounds or with a patient
· Assist where the need arises by pushing patients in a wheelchair (following appropriate training) or to contact the appropriate staff member
· Make patients and visitors welcome and to direct them to the department or service they require
· To reassure anxious patients or relatives and help answer general (non-clinical) queries
· Assist patients in ensuring that suggestion / comments reach the appropriate staff / manager
· Providing patient information and other materials where needed
· Assist with keeping the volunteering area tidy and free from obstruction
· Providing a trolley service for patients
· Mealtime support for identified patients (prompting/opening packets only)
· To gather and share patient, relative, carer and staff stories
· To always adhere to the lone worker policy and buddy systems
· To adhere to Infection Control current policies and guidelines
